The famous pilgrimage, Amarnath yatra is devoted to hindu deity Lord Shiva. This yatra is associated with Hindu festival of Shravan Mela and usually happens in the months of June & July. In this yatra one have to go to a distant cave situated at a height of 13,000 feet in Himalayas. About this place it is believed that Lord Shiva imparted the Knowledge about immortality to his wife Parvathi. From all over the world pilgrims attracts towards Amarnath Yatra, which is famous for Darshan of Ice Lingam, a very unique feature in this world. Apart from main lingam representing Lord Bholenath, two other lingams are also presents which represents Shri Ganesh and Parvathi. J&K Govt. organises the amarnath yatra in a quite well way. Registration is mandatory for all pilgrims. Climate & weather The climate at such height of 13,500 feet is highly unpredictable. Rains and snowfall are known to hit this place in unpredictable manner. It is quite cold here especially during nights (5-10 degree Celcius lowest temp was recorded here). Do's and Don'ts for the pilgrims :- * As Amarnath Yatra involves trekking to heights inexcess to 14,000 feet so pilgrims should be Physically as well mentally fit for strenuous physical activity. * Pilgrims should carry with them adequate warm clothing like woolen sweater, jacket, warm socks, caps and woolen gloves etc. To wear a good set of body warmers will be usefull. * As Yatra is physically exhausting so to carry some edible items like dates, juices, dry fruits and biscuits to power oneself is an good idea. At some specific camps food is available in plenty but at some other places nothing else is available. * If on the way, you feel tired take rest before you proceed further. Walk at your own pace and no need to overstrain. * Along the route many spots are quite dangerous and are marked appropriately so do not rest at such places. Visiting holy cave of Amarnath is one of beautiful experience. Do not miss the opportunity to visit holy cave if you ever get a chance.
